I presented a session at a team-building day on the topic of ‘Fun at Work’.

Fun is a very subjective thing. Rather than impose my ideas of fun on people or get them to do crazy things like building bridges or massaging their team-mates *shudder* I talked about the good reasons for finding ways to be lighthearted at work. We did some exercises so people could work out what they really value, then talked about how they can communicate their values in the workplace. Work best in silence sometimes? Find a way to tell people that. Need a break in routine? Suggest having your meeting in the park.

Rather than advocating ‘fun’ of the ‘balloons and noise-maker’ variety, I advocate finding ways to feel energised and connected so you can contribute at work in a way that’s satisfying to you.

I had a lot of fun delivering this session. I love seeing the different ways people express themselves. I also enjoyed combining my comedy experience with the things I love talking about the most.

PS I didn’t have that expression on my face during the session. I just like the picture. It’s fun. See how subjective that word is?
